MLB Safety Regulations

How do you feel about the newly added MLB rule which disallows any and all contact at home plate between the base runner and the catcher? Is the league taking safety too far, or is this a good idea?

  1. I think that the new MLB rule is a little strict to allow absolutely no contact at home plate between the base runner and the catcher. In my opinion I think that rule will cause a lot of controversy, I think if they made the rule a lot more lenient than it would be more efficient, but to ban all contact is a little much. I think that it takes out part of the intense aspect of the sport and makes it easier, which isn’t always fun.

  2. I say play the game how its been played for years. Injuries can be prevented, there doesn't need to be a rule to tell you this. You can still slide into second or third and still get injured. I think it is a little strict but I want to see it in game to see how it plays out and if it changes much.

  3. I think the new MLB rule is great for the players, but bad for the viewers. Players such as Buster Posey had their season come to an end due to a collision. The collisions are not safe, and can cause a harmful injury to the catcher and the player. The MLB is trying to reduce long term effect injuries. I like the rule because I don't like to see anyone get hurt. For the other viewers, this rule makes the game less interesting to watch. Viewers love to watch those collisions, and without them the game feels boring. The viewers might lose some interest in the game, but it will be a rule that won't go be changed for some time.

  4. This rule looks good on paper, but ultimately is not good for the sport. While collisions are somewhat dangerous, they are, and have been a part of the sport since its creation. The MLB has the right idea with the rule, but it is too strict, and takes something away from watching the game.

  5. Keep in mind that this is only a trial year for the rule... but I think it is a huge waste of time. Catchers can not block the plate? No collisions at home even if it might decide the game? That is one of the worst rules they could have implemented. Sure Buster Posey, the best catcher in the league, broke his leg a couple seasons ago, but for Baseball as a whole the rule will only damage the game.

  6. I don't believe that this rule is necessary to the MLB, and it seems like a big waste of time to me. This rule could remove a lot of intensity from the game of baseball, and it would make me feel as if the world has become to safe, and no one likes safety. I believe that if someone dies from a collision, then they should make the rule, but I don't see any dead people yet.

  7. I have to say, I completely disagree with this rule. I know it is not popular opinion, but I also disagree with instant replay in Baseball. I think it takes something away from the purity of the sport. Baseball was one of the last remaining sports that still had many of the original qualities to it. It still felt like the game of the past, and now? Not so much
